I came to La Paz, Bolivia, searching for the world’s highest DIY skatepark. But after exploring Pura Pura, discovering DIY spots in El Alto, and spending days skating through the city, I realized there was a bigger story to tell.
From community-built skateparks high in the Andes to Día del Peatón, when streets open up to skaters and pedestrians, this is a look at the people keeping skateboarding alive in La Paz and El Alto, and in general.
Along the way, I learned about **AYNI Skate Project**, a community initiative using skateboarding to create opportunities for young people through free skate lessons and access to equipment.
Want to learn more about AYNI, support its work, help the local skate community, or find out how you can donate? Visit their website:

This started as a search for the highest skatepark. It became a reminder that skateboarding is about more than the spots we skate — it’s about the people who build them, maintain them, and make the community what it is.
If you skate in Bolivia or anywhere else in the world, let me know in the comments: *What makes your local skate scene special?*
