Michelle Landry MP: Why Backing Local Businesses Matters More Than Ever

When small business succeeds, Capricornia succeeds. During Small Business Month, I spoke in Parliament to recognise the incredible contribution small and family businesses make across Capricornia and regional Australia. From cafes and retailers in Rockhampton, to tourism operators in Yeppoon, family businesses in Sarina, and tradies, farmers and service providers across our region, small businesses are the backbone of our communities. They create jobs, support local events, sponsor junior sport and help keep our towns strong, connected and resilient. But many are facing growing pressure from rising power bills, insurance costs, freight expenses, workforce shortages and weak consumer confidence. Despite these challenges, they continue to invest in their communities and support local jobs. That's why it's so important to back local businesses whenever we can. Every dollar spent locally helps support local workers, apprentices, suppliers and community organisations.
