Why Good Children’s Literature Matters Today | Dr. Kathleen Sullivan

Why should adults read children’s literature? And what can these timeless stories teach us about living well? In this lecture, Christendom College English professor Dr. Kathleen Sullivan explores the enduring value of children’s literature and its power to cultivate imagination, strengthen virtue, and renew our sense of wonder. Drawing on beloved classics such as Anne of Green Gables, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Secret Garden, and The Wind in the Willows, Dr. Sullivan offers three reasons why good children’s literature matters today: it forms our moral imagination, teaches us to recognize beauty in ordinary things, and provides a treasury of stories that nourish our lives. Discover how these timeless works can help readers of all ages rediscover hope, gratitude, and the joy of seeing the world through the eyes of a child.
