Jazz noir for a summer night in Greece, 1979 - Greek spy jazz blending cinematic noir, bouzouki, baglamas, santouri, muted trumpet, violin, and the modal colours of the Aegean.
Fifteen chapters. One operation. A coastline where every harbour may be watched.
Welcome to Greece. It is the summer of 1979.
A foreign operative arrives at Ellinikon Airport under an ordinary cover. The Riviera Hotel already has his reservation. A woman is waiting in Glyfada. The embassy car that was supposed to collect him never arrives.
Then, through the wall of his hotel room, he hears a bouzouki playing next door.
What follows is a fictional espionage journey through Athens, Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, Hydra, Cape Sounion and the Saronic Gulf; told through jazz noir, Greek folk instrumentation, Mediterranean modes and the sound of late-1970s intrigue.
Bouzouki and baglamas weave through muted trumpet, upright bass, dark piano, brushed drums, santouri and mournful violin. Hasapiko-derived rhythms, asymmetric meters and Hijaz/Nikriz colours give the album a distinctly Greek character without leaving the world of cinematic noir.
The result is warm, nocturnal and atmospheric: music for late-night listening, reading, writing, studying, working, driving at night, or simply disappearing somewhere along the Aegean for a while.

THE STORY
An ordinary arrival becomes an operation almost immediately.
A hotel reservation has been made in advance. A woman in Glyfada knows more than she should. The embassy car never appears. And somewhere behind a thin hotel wall, a bouzouki plays a melody that does not seem accidental.
The trail moves south along the Athenian Riviera: through Vouliagmeni, across the water by ferry, and onto Hydra after midnight.
Then comes the photograph.
It was taken yesterday.
Someone has been watching the operation before the operative even understood there was one.
Back in Athens, surveillance closes in. A meeting over two glasses on a terrace provides the final piece, and before dawn the trail leads toward Cape Sounion and a yacht waiting somewhere beyond the coast.
But when the moment comes, the yacht leaves without him.
By first light, the Saronic Gulf is quiet again.
No arrest. No confession. No proof of who was really directing the operation. Only the sea remains.
And the Aegean keeps the secret.
