Vipassana 20days part 1 - Dhamma Tapovan
All you need to know about the 20days course
The video aims to provide information on the experience of a 20-day retreat, which is less commonly discussed on YouTube.
The eligibility criteria for a 20-day retreat include having completed a 10-day retreat and an 8-day course called Satipatthana.
The video will cover differences in technique between the two retreats and what is new in the 20-day retreat.
Discourses will also be discussed, along with who should not participate in the retreat.
Eligibility for a 20-day Vipassana course requires fulfilling certain criteria and obtaining approval from local area teachers, and the time management during the course involves sitting in one group sitting and compulsory evening group sitting.
Eligibility for a 20-day course requires fulfilling certain criteria such as completing a 10-day course and practicing for 2 hours every morning and evening for the past 2 years.
Approval for the 20-day course is granted by local area teachers who have knowledge about the Sadhana practice.
Time management during the course involves sitting in one compulsory group sitting and evening group sitting from 6 to 7.
Separate seats are available for Sadhana practice during the rest of the group sittings or in the pagoda for meditation.
There is a slight change in the time and technique for the 20-day Vipassana camp.
The coming time is 3.5 days out of 10 days, meaning first 3 days and the coming time of the 4th day is half a day.
In the 20-day camp, you have to come within 7 days and on the 8th day morning, after 8-9 the session of Vipassana is completed.
Meal time is kept the same as before, and there is lemon water in the evening.
The camp of 10 days has many people who have never done Vipassana, which causes disturbance and does not allow going deep in Sadhana.
Group sittings are important for both new and old sadhaks during the 20-day Vipassana course, with pravachan being conducted after 6-7 group sittings in Hindi and at a different time for English speakers.
The 20-day course provides maximum time for sadhaks to go deep inside themselves.
Pravachan is done in Hindi after 6-7 group sittings and in English at a different time.
Pravachan is meant to help sadhaks understand dharma in detail and covers topics such as patrata and shil.
The first shil of Vipassana is to be purified from all three forms of violence, which includes not doing violence to any being and not supporting it if someone else does it.
The shil can be purified in three ways: not doing it, not letting anyone else do it, and not supporting it if it's done.
Purification from all three forms of violence is necessary for becoming a parami.
In a 20-day retreat, there are only two check-ins compared to four in a 10-day retreat, and there is minimal interaction with dhamma sevak and teachers.
