History of Shaughnessy Park: Shaughnessy Park, also associated with The Crescent, was established in 1909 as part of the development of Shaughnessy Heights by the Canadian Pacific Railway. The neighbourhood was named after Sir Thomas Shaughnessy, a former president of the Canadian Pacific Railway. The park and surrounding neighbourhood were designed with the involvement of landscape architect Frederick Todd and Danish engineer L. E. Davick. Covering approximately 3.5 acres, Shaughnessy Park contains an extraordinary collection of trees. The Vancouver Heritage Foundation identifies 47 species of rare and unusual trees in this historic green space. Unlike Vancouver's typical rectangular parks, Shaughnessy Park features a distinctive oval layout surrounded by curved residential streets.
