關正傑: Reincarnated (天蠶變) - OST - Reincarnated 1979 (天蠶變) - English Translation

Translating the main theme song (片頭曲) "Reincarnated" (天蠶變) from the Reincarnated 1979 (天蠶變) into English. Original Cantonese Song by Michael Kwan (關正傑). The "Reincarnated" is a hugely popular TV series made by ATV and released in 1979. It was a whopping 60 episodes long and was based on a series of wuxia novels written by Wong Yik (黃鷹), better known as Huang Yi. Although a very good writer in his own outright, he was also a 'ghost writer' for many of Gu Long's novels. The plot was very entertaining throughout and I loved the various clans and various characters in it. The main martial arts school was of course Wudang. The series was so popular that it spawned a number of sequels and reboots: Dragon Strike 1979 (天龍訣) which was the initial direct sequel but focuses on the struggle for power in the royal court with many characters returning from Reincarnated. On the Waterfront 1980 (湖海爭霸錄) which is a loose sequel to Dragon Strike which rounds out the trilogy. It is only considered as part of the trilogy as the series mentions the name of the protagonist from the previous series and uses the same martial arts moves. Reincarnated II 1984 (天蠶再變) is a reboot made by Taiwan ignoring the events of "Dragon Strike" and "On the Waterfront". Reincarnated II 1993 (天蠶變之再與天比高) is another reboot made by ATV. New Reincarnated 2001 (新天蚕变/金蚕丝雨) which is a remaking of "On the Waterfront". The cast was pretty extensive and includes the likes of Norman Chui (徐少強), Lawrence Ng (伍衛國), Nora Miao (陳詠憫), Candice Yu (余安安), Iris Ma (馬敏兒), Ricky Lau (劉緯民), and Choi King Fai (蔡瓊輝) amongst many others. I actually liked Norman Chui's acting in this series as the main lead. It was his first lead role in a wuxia TV series. I read that as the series became more popular, Norman acted more like a diva on set. He frequently clashed with the director and cast, before eventually leaving the production altogether to try to cash in on his new found fame. In 1979, TV series were produced "live". That is the episodes aired on TV whilst filming for new episodes was still taking place. Norman' abrupt departure, caused massive production issues and blew out the budget. The script was required to be changed and another main lead hired. I didn't like the new lead much. His acting was pretty terrible. It was due to Norman Chiu leaving mid production, that studios decided to complete filming a TV series first before airing it on TV, to prevent a repeat incident. I loved Nora Miao's acting and character in the series. Her presence in the series made it very popular to international audiences who wanted to see more of her in action. Her popularity had grown after she starred in the Bruce Lee films that included "The Big Boss", "Fist of Fury" and "The Way of the Dragon". Although, I didn't enjoy how they revealed her character to be the sister to the main protagonist. Something likely inspired by the author/script writer who is stated to have drawn inspiration from the original Star Wars trilogy in his writings. I felt for Candy Yu's character. So kind and caring but her love goes unrequited. A shout out to Ray Lau who played a fantastic sub villain in the series. I absolutely loved his performance. The main theme song "Reincarnated" was sung by Michael Kwan. This is one of my favourite theme songs from an ATV series. It also won many awards in 1979. Anyway, enjoy...
