The Autrorail ATR 300 diesel tram was built in 1949 in Belgium for the Vicinal Railway company SNCV.
Watch to the end to look "under the hood" and see the Sherman tank engine and GM builder's plate revealed.
Before that, step aboard for the forward-facing cab view, looking over the shoulder of the driver and through the front window, with all the controls and gauges in great sight.
It was used on rural overland lines without electrification and capable of hauling extra goods wagons or passenger coaches.
The vehicle is powered by a General Motors 6-cylinder type 6-71 diesel engine, which was also the prime mover on the legendary World War II Sherman tanks.
ATR 300 is preserved at the ASVi Museum in Thuin and runs on the non-electrified diesel line to Biesme-sous-Thuin, which is a regauged and reopened part of the former standard gauge branch line to Chimay.
