Every Country's True Size on the New World Map

All 249 countries and territories, moved one at a time from the old Mercator world map onto Equal Earth, starting with the places Mercator blows up the most. The UN didn't draw a new map. Its September 2026 resolution asks governments, schools and tech companies to use equal-area projections like Equal Earth, and the UN's own world map isn't drawn that way yet. Both maps share the same total land area, so each card shows how much Mercator inflates or shrinks that place. Measured from the equator, Greenland comes out 16 times too big. Borders follow UN resolutions, so Crimea is part of Ukraine and the Golan Heights part of Syria. Continents follow Britannica, so the Urals split Russia. Areas are CIA World Factbook totals and Antarctica is left out.
