On October 21, 1805, off the coast of Spain, 27 British warships sailed straight at 33 French and Spanish ships of the line. Every rule of naval warfare said it was suicide. Admiral Horatio Nelson did it anyway.
This is the story of the Battle of Trafalgar — the most decisive naval battle of the age of sail. How Napoleon's plan to invade Britain collapsed, why Nelson split his fleet into two columns and drove them head-on into the enemy's guns, what happened when HMS Victory broke the line, and how a single sharpshooter's bullet changed everything. It is also the story of the Santísima Trinidad — the biggest warship on Earth — fighting her last battle.
Trafalgar ended Napoleon's dream of invading England and gave Britain command of the seas for the next hundred years. But victory came at a terrible price.
