Architectural Drawing Tutorial: How to Design an Architectural Hotel Building from Basic 3D shapes

Isometric Hotel Design | Architectural Sketching Tutorial In this step-by-step architectural drawing tutorial, we’ll explore how to design a hotel building in isometric view by combining basic geometric shapes and transforming them into a complete architectural concept. We’ll start by drawing two rectangular prisms and a cylinder separately in isometric projection. Then, we’ll combine these three basic volumes to create the initial geometric form of a hotel: a tall vertical rectangular prism representing the guest room tower, an elongated horizontal rectangular prism accommodating the lobby, restaurant, and other communal spaces, and a half-cylinder forming a distinctive and expressive main entrance. Once the primary volumes are established, we’ll refine the design by adding architectural details, including terraces, windows, columns, material textures, and landscape elements. Step by step, these simple geometric forms will evolve into a final architectural sketch of a contemporary hotel. ✏️ Materials needed: A4 drawing paper 0.1 mm fineliner Rando alcohol markers A selection of colored pencils This exercise is a great way to practice isometric drawing, understand architectural composition, and develop your ability to transform simple geometric shapes into a more complex architectural design. --- About me Hi, I’m Ghazaleh Hajimir, an architect and interior designer.
