Have you ever wondered why some people seem to just know what to do in a situation, almost instinctively, while others struggle to hear from God at all? The answer lies in understanding who you really are — spirit, soul, and body — and learning to walk in the spirit daily. Walking in the Spirit Is a Daily Process Galatians 5:16 makes it clear: walking in the spirit isn't a one-time decision, it's a continuous, daily lifestyle. It's not something you achieve once and move on from — it's a walk, meaning it requires consistent, deliberate steps every single day. The Spirit Is the Real You Genesis 2:1 points us to a foundational truth: the spirit is the real you. Not your body, not even your soul — your spirit. This is the part of you that was made in God's image, the part that is eternal. Spirit Connects with Spirit We are spirit beings, and God is Spirit. Because of this, true worship of God can only happen in the spirit. This is why 2 Corinthians 5:17 is so significant — it describes a spiritual regeneration, a rebirth that creates a new link back to God. Without this regeneration, without sharing the same Spirit as our Maker, genuine communication with God isn't possible. The spirit is what regulates our communion with Him. The Spirit Has No Boundaries Just as it's important to walk in the spirit, it's equally important to understand that the spirit operates without the limitations the natural mind imposes. This is why intuition matters — the spirit man knows by instinct what to do in every moment. The spirit is also the seat of conscience, regulating how we interact with others so that our conduct aligns with God's principles. And while conscience can be suppressed, it can never be completely silenced. The Soul: Your Seat of Emotions The soul is different from the spirit. The soul is your mind — your seat of emotions, will, and intellect. It's the soul that determines how your body behaves, because your emotions, your will, and your intellect work together to direct your actions. The Body: Your Interface With the World The body simply receives instructions from the mind. Through the five senses, the body experiences the physical world, and it's through this that the soul is able to interact with everything around it. Renewing the Mind This brings us to Romans 12:2. When you receive Christ and confess Him as Lord, your heart doesn't automatically change everything overnight — but your spirit is instantly regenerated. Romans 12:2 shows us that the mind must go through a process: renewal. This renewal aligns your thinking with God's Word. Once this happens, we no longer operate under the flesh, but in the spirit. Your entire mindset shifts, and it's only then that you become fully able to receive what the spirit is saying to you. Walking in the spirit isn't complicated, but it does require intentionality. Know that the real you is your spirit. Let your mind be renewed daily by God's Word. And watch how your capacity to hear and walk with God grows.
