Videos might take longer to come out due to a heavy course load at school, hope that's okay! Thanks for checking out this Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 Review and thank you for your continued support. I initially was planning to make this an Analysis or Critique of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 Remastered, but I ended realizing that I didn't have a ton to say. Bottom line, if you were looking for some gameplay of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater Remastered or some multiplayer for this latest installment in the Tony Hawk franchise then you are in the right place as I can surely say it's a great time to go back to kickin' it old school! Apologies if you were hoping for a Tony Hawk's Pro Skater critique, or analysis but don't worry, I'm sure my Assassin's Creed Revelations video will be a bit more in-depth! I wouldn't mind doing a Tony Hawk Critique or more Tony Hawk Reviews in the future if you guys are interested in it. I would also consider doing a few videos on the Skate franchise. It may seem strange to start a Tony Hawk video by talking about its biggest competitor but the reason I bring it up is to say that this review will have no nostalgia goggles whatsoever. The last time I reviewed a remaster was Spongebob Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated and while I think that game was very good I also think that there was a huge amount of nostalgia there. That nostalgia is not present here. As a child, I knew about the Tony Hawk series and played Pro Skater 4 a little bit but I absolutely fell in love with and became a very passionate fan of Skate. I give you this context to say that I began playing this game as someone with no nostalgia for this series and even though it would be inferior to the Skate series. I now know that Tony Hawk and Skate are two very different beasts and I can happily report that even if you have not played any of the Tony Hawk games you will surely scratch a skateboarding itch with this game and it is some fantastic old school fun. I want to clarify that this is a hybrid remaster of sorts as this product includes both Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2 so because of that I’ll be looking at it as a whole package. First things first this game looks drop-dead gorgeous. The art style is a great hybrid between realism and an arcade animated polish. The environments here all look great but I felt like some of these levels were done a bit of a disservice from being locked to just a night time setting as the lighting here looks great. I would have loved to see certain maps like New York during the day and having a daytime setting for the map “mall” being populated with people you could knock over would be beyond gnarly. Of course, that's not to say that these night time maps are bad, in fact, I like just about all of them with some favourites being school I, the hangar, and skate street. All of the maps here are designed quite well and they all have some sort of secret room hidden within them which was nice as these maps are already reasonably big, that is of course with the exception of the warehouse, the first map you unlock which acts as a great starting map. The challenges here are quite easy and a condensed map allows you to learn in a very basic environment or clean it up in minutes if you're a veteran. The maps gradually expand with more complexity and the maps in pro skater 1 are obviously simpler than those featured in Pro Skater 2 which worked to my favour as I spent my beginning hours playing the Pro Skater 1 map which had typically smaller environments and this allowed to me refine my grasp on the controls which made me more capable of completing some of the more obscure challenges and unlocking the multiple secret areas featured in the Pro Skater 2 maps. Each level has some sort of secret that gives it a personality, such as Philadelphia, which has a fountain that serves as a pretty big hazard but if you grind up this massive wire then you can get up to a balcony with a few valves and upon breaking these valves the fountain will be drained permanently. Within the same level, you can grind an electrical wire which will result in a pole crashing into a fence that hides an entire skate park behind it. Or take the Hangar in which you can grind over a vaults handle to open it leading to a gnarly halfpipe, or at the same level, you can grind across a helicopter which will cause the helicopter to take off and open an outside portion of the map. Personally, I enjoyed the maps featured in Pro Skater 2 more however I still enjoyed all of them overall.
