Home health and home care sound similar, but they provide very different kinds of help. In this video, I explain the difference between home health vs home care, what each service actually does, and how to figure out whether you or a loved one may need one — or both.
You’ll learn:
• What home health actually means and who may come to your home
• What home care commonly helps with, including bathing, dressing, meals, supervision, and everyday support
• Why home health is generally visit-based rather than an all-day caregiver service
• How nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, medical social services, and home health aide services may fit in
• Why Medicare-covered home health does not automatically mean someone will stay with you throughout the day
• How home health and home care can overlap
• Why some people may need both services after a hospital or rehab stay
• Questions to ask your healthcare team when home health is being arranged
• Questions to ask before hiring a home care company
A simple way to remember the difference:
Home health = healthcare brought into the home.
Home care = help with day-to-day life at home.
One of the most important questions to ask before someone comes home from the hospital is:
Who is going to help with everything that happens between the home health visits?
This video includes comparison graphics and practical question lists you can pause or screenshot when planning care.
