"He Just Goes There for Photos!" Mabonga Mocks Muhoozi's Military Record.

Lt. Herbert Matanda Mabonga is not holding back when it comes to Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba. In my one-on-one conversation with him, Mabonga delivers a scathing assessment of the Chief of Defence Forces. His argument is that occupying the highest military office does not automatically make someone competent to lead an army. In fact, Mabonga goes as far as describing Muhoozi as the least competent person to occupy that office, comparing him unfavourably with former military leaders such as Gen. Katumba Wamala, Gen. David Muhoozi, Gen. Wilson Mbadi, Gen. Aronda Nyakairima and Gen. Kazini. But Mabonga's criticism goes beyond military command. He questions how someone who has reportedly attended some of the world's finest civilian and military institutions can struggle with public communication, yet appear so comfortable resorting to threats and violence against critics. He also questions the gap between Muhoozi's military reputation and his actual record of command. During our conversation, I brought up several military operations Muhoozi has allegedly commanded. Mabonga burst into laughter, arguing that Muhoozi would show up for photographs while the actual fighting was being done by other soldiers. Those are extraordinary claims from a former military officer who says he understands the institution from the inside. How does Mabonga arrive at such a damning assessment?
