On a rainy night, one light still burned deep beneath the royal palace. This 1-hour fantasy BGM is made for studying, reading, writing, and deep focus. 🌧️ THE KINGDOM THAT NEVER SLEEPS Chapter 2 — The Alchemy That Should Not Exist Royal Chief Alchemist Adela lived by three rules. First: never be disturbed during an experiment. Second: never speak a theory you cannot prove. Third: never pretend to know what you do not. She valued the third most. An alchemist who could not admit ignorance would eventually cause an accident. If lucky, only the laboratory would be destroyed. If unlucky— they would disappear with it. That night was no different. Almost none of the rain reached the underground laboratory. Logs burned quietly in an old furnace. Crackle. Blue liquid bubbled inside a glass tube as Adela took notes. Temperature: 73 degrees. Mana concentration: 4.2. Next reaction— Knock. Her pen stopped. Two more knocks followed. It was just past midnight. Few people came this far underground at such an hour. Actually, there was only one. “Come in.” The door opened. A soaked black robe. Messy hair. And the face of someone who had not slept. Court Mage Elian. “What happened to you?” “Went to bed a little late.” A lie. Elian stepped inside and locked the door. Click. Adela’s gaze sharpened. He often brought troublesome things into her laboratory. But he was not the kind of man who locked the door behind him. “What is it?” Elian pulled something wrapped in cloth from his robe. A book. Black leather cover. No title. No author. No crest or seal. Normally, he would have made a pointless joke by now. Tonight, he was quiet. “Where did you find it?” “The royal library. Western tower.” The oldest library in the palace. Elian pushed the book toward her. “Look at the first page.” She placed a hand on the cover. Cold. Far too cold. Yet there was no mana, no curse, no warning from any detection spell. It was simply— strangely cold. Adela opened the book. And stopped. Overlapping circles. Crossing lines. Unfamiliar symbols along the edges. At first glance, it resembled a magic circle. But it wasn’t. Adela had spent her life studying alchemy. “…It’s an alchemical formula.” Elian quietly exhaled. Adela pulled her chair closer. Alchemy followed an order. Material. Reaction. Conversion. Result. To refine iron, you needed iron. To brew medicine, you needed herbs. No matter how complex the formula— something could not come from nothing. That was one of alchemy’s oldest laws. And yet— Adela’s finger stopped. There was a result. There was a conversion process. There was even a structure controlling mana flow. But— there was no material. She read it again. Once. Twice. Three times. “This makes no sense.” A badly written formula would have been easier to understand. But this one was too precise. The symbols. The reaction sequence. The mana flow. Whoever wrote it understood alchemy exceptionally well. Someone like that would never forget the material. Then there was only one explanation. The material was not missing. Adela simply had not found it yet. She pulled out a fresh sheet of paper. “Leave it here.” Elian stood. At the door, he paused. “Don’t tell anyone.” Normally, she would have asked why. This time, she didn’t. “Fine.” Click. The door closed. Adela was alone with the black book. One hour passed. Then two. Then three. The blue liquid had gone cold. Half the candle had melted away. Near dawn— “…Wait.” Her pen stopped. There. Where the material should have been. A tiny symbol. She had mistaken it for decoration. Adela went straight to the shelves. One book. Nothing. A second. Nothing. A third. Still nothing. Then, in an old volume of royal alchemical records— the same symbol. An archaic notation no longer in use. Adela read the explanation beneath it. Once. Then again. The meaning did not change. “…You’ve got to be kidding me.” She slowly turned toward the black book. She had been wrong. The formula did have a material. The problem was— the material was not matter. Then— rustle. Adela froze. She had not touched the book. There was no wind. Yet the first page turned by itself. The second page was blank. For a moment. Then a black dot appeared in the center. It spread. One character. Then another. A sentence slowly began to form. Adela watched without breathing. Royal Chief Alchemist Adela lived by three rules. The third was— Never pretend to know what you do not. That night, for the first time in a very long while— Adela realized she understood absolutely nothing. And this time, she did not enjoy that feeling at all. — CHAPTER 2 END — 🎧 Perfect for Studying • Reading • Writing • Deep Focus • Relaxing 📖 Original fantasy story by FABLE & LUTE 🎼 Fantasy ambience for studying and reading #FantasyMusic #StudyMusic #MedievalFantasy #FantasyBGM #ReadingMusic #FocusMusic #FableAndLute
