"Mahmud Ghaznavi ": Hero or Tyrant ? | The Sultan Who Shook India | UNTOLD HISTORY

Mahmud Ghaznavi was one of the most powerful rulers of the medieval Islamic world. From the rising power of Ghazni to the battlefields of Punjab, the Gangetic plains, and finally the famous campaign against Somnath in 1025–26, his reign was defined by relentless military expansion, political ambition, wealth, and religious prestige. But who was Mahmud Ghaznavi really? Was he simply a warrior Sultan driven by conquest? A Ghazi whose campaigns were celebrated across the Islamic world? Or was the wealth of India essential to maintaining the powerful military state he had built? In this full documentary, we follow Mahmud Ghaznavi's journey from his early years under his father Sebuktigin to his rise as Sultan of Ghazni, his campaigns against the Hindu Shahi rulers, his expeditions deep into northern India, the legendary Somnath campaign, and finally the legacy he left behind. This documentary also looks beyond the legends to examine the political, military, financial, and religious dimensions of Mahmud's campaigns. From Ghazni to Punjab. From the Ganges-Jumna plains to Gujarat. From the rise of a Sultan to a legacy that still sparks debate more than a thousand years later. This is the story of Mahmud Ghaznavi. #MahmudGhaznavi #Ghaznavi #Somnath #IslamicHistory #IndianHistory #HistoryDocumentary #MedievalHistory #GhaznavidEmpire #Hindustan #History
