What I Found Inside Utah’s Massive 100,000-Acre Wildfire

A couple months after the Cottonwood Fire burned nearly 100,000 acres across Utah's Tushar Mountains, I headed back into an area I've hunted and camped in before to see what was left. What I found wasn't quite what I expected. I drove through the burn scar toward Three Creeks Reservoir and Eagle Point, seeing burned cabins, flood and debris damage, and mile after mile of blackened forest. But underneath all of it, the mountain was already coming back. New aspens, scrub oak and grasses were growing everywhere. From the ground—and eventually from the air—the scale of the Cottonwood Fire is pretty incredible to see. Thanks for tagging along.
