The Prophet ﷺ called it Halawatul Iman — the Sweetness of Faith.
It's not just believing, it's feeling it — a joy in the heart that makes hard worship easy and hard times bearable.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"There are three qualities whoever has them will taste the sweetness of faith:
1. That Allah and His Messenger are more beloved to him than anything else,
2. That he loves a person only for the sake of Allah,
3. That he hates to return to disbelief as he hates to be thrown into fire."
[Bukhari & Muslim]
Where does that joy come from?
1. Knowing Allah loves you back
When you pray, you're not just performing a duty — you are talking to the One who said: "I am as My servant thinks of Me." The joy is that the King of kings lets you call on Him directly, without any intermediary.
2. Peace after surrender — Sakina
The Qur'an says:
"Those who believe and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah. Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest." (13:28)
Faith gives you a place to put your worries down. You do your part, and you leave the result to Allah. That is Tawakkul — and Tawakkul is joy.
3. Finding meaning in everything
With faith, nothing is wasted.
A smile is charity.
Patience in pain is reward.
Even a thorn prick expiates sins.
The believer never loses. The Prophet ﷺ said: _"Amazing is the affair of the believer, when something good happens he is grateful, and that is good for him, and when something bad happens he is patient, and that is good for him."_[Muslim]
4. The joy of being chosen
Out of billions, Allah guided you to say _La ilaha illAllah_. That itself is the biggest joy. Hasan Al-Basri said: "If you want to know your worth with Allah, look at what you are occupied with."
How to taste it again if you lost it?
The Sahaba said faith goes up and down. If you feel dryness:
Pray at night when everyone sleeps — even 2 rak'ah of Tahajjud brings a sweetness no daytime act gives.
Make Qur'an personal — read it as if Allah is speaking directly to _you_, not just as history.
Give secretly — hidden charity waters the heart.
Forgive someone for Allah — the heart cannot feel joy while holding grudges.
Imam Ibn Taymiyyah, who was imprisoned many times, used to say from inside prison: "What can my enemies do to me? My garden is in my heart."
That garden is faith.
Is your heart feeling that joy these days, or feeling distant from it? I can share some small adhkar and du'as that bring that sweetness back quickly.
