We knew our French château came with a forest. We had no idea what was waiting there in spring. Our first spring here brought a few things we hadn’t anticipated. The river overflowed its banks, giving us a useful (and rather watery) lesson in where not to put our future gardens. It was definitely overwhelming, but at the very least, the château sits well above the river, and so the flood never came close to the house. Sean also acquired a tractor. With all this land to look after, it was a practical purchase. His enthusiasm was considerably more than mine 😂 Meanwhile, the magnolia outside our bedroom window finally gave us an answer, and the paths we’d been walking all winter disappeared into a carpet of bluebells. We bought this place without knowing the woods could look like that. There’s Easter at the château, a slightly improvised game of croquet with a very old set, and two kids learning to ride their bikes. Between figuring out how to care for the grounds and taking time to enjoy them, we’re getting to know the place we now call home. We’re Kamille and Sean, two musicians from Los Angeles restoring a seventeenth-century château in the French countryside.
