They have different icons so you can tell them apart, and both need to live in your Applications folder to work properly. Beta is how Ecamm tests new features and updates before releasing them to everyone. Every feature you use in the app today came through beta testing first — which means the feedback from people running beta directly shapes what makes it into the release version. If you want to get early access to new features and help improve the app, beta is the place to do it.
