Last Boat to Algiers 🚢🎺 A late-afternoon ferry leaves New Orleans and begins its journey across the Mississippi River. Among the passengers is a man with a ticket in his coat pocket. By the railing stands a woman he has never met. A cornet carries across the water. A banjo starts playing on the lower deck. And somewhere halfway across the Mississippi, a simple question begins a conversation: “Is this seat taken?” Last Boat to Algiers is a 12-track journey inspired by the sound and atmosphere of late-1920s New Orleans jazz and early Dixieland — cornet, clarinet, trombone, tenor banjo, acoustic tuba, piano and early jazz rhythm. The story follows one ferry crossing from the New Orleans landing to Algiers, from clear late-afternoon light to the first lamps of evening. Two strangers board the ferry.
