Best of Venice in 24 hours? St Mark Square, Doge's Palace, Pizza, Squid Ink Pasta

Our best 24 hours in Venice, Italy: Rialto Bridge, St Mark’s Basilica, the Doge’s Palace, Farini pizza, squid ink pasta and SUSO gelato. Megan and I only had one day in Venice before heading to Prague, so we tried to see the main sights and eat as much Venetian food as we could. If you’re planning a short trip and wondering what to do in Venice in 24 hours, this is exactly how we spent ours. After a quick supermarket stop for water, we headed to the Rialto Bridge, the oldest of the four bridges across the Grand Canal and one of the best spots for views of the canal. From there we walked to St Mark’s Square (Piazza San Marco) and went inside St Mark’s Basilica, then toured the Doge’s Palace, the old seat of Venice’s government. For food, we grabbed pizza from Farini, had squid ink pasta at Osteria Fanal del Codega, and finished the day with gelato from SUSO. You’ll see our honest thoughts on each and whether they were worth it. Venice in winter was cold, but quieter than we expected, which made a one-day Venice itinerary a lot more manageable.
