Voldemort fired the one curse no spell can block, again and again, in the Ministry Atrium. It hit a golden statue, a security desk, empty air, and a phoenix. Not one living person. Dumbledore never tried to kill him. He built a shield out of the room itself, wrapped Voldemort in fire, then locked him in water, and kept him there until the Aurors arrived and Fudge finally saw the truth with his own eyes. By the end, the man throwing death curses was hiding behind conjured silver. Then he ran. The film turned that fight into a light show and cut the pieces that explain it. The book shows a style: Fudge and three others knocked out in his office without a scratch, Death Eaters tied up instead of killed, Grindelwald defeated in 1945 and left alive. Dumbledore ended fights, not people. And that same rule, winning without a body, is what decided who really owned the Elder Wand when Voldemort cast his last curse. In 2004, Rowling said the reason Dumbledore gives for not killing Voldemort that night isn't the real one. We go looking for it, from the Horcruxes to the Aurors to one summer in 1899 when his sister died in a three-way duel and he never learned whose spell it was. Your pick for the real reason: Horcruxes, buying time for Fudge, Ariana, or protecting Harry? And bonus round: what was the unnamed spell that made Voldemort reach for a silver shield? #Dumbledore #Voldemort #OrderOfThePhoenix #HarryPotter #WizardDuel Clips from Order of the Phoenix are used briefly here for commentary and criticism.
