When Samaria Believed | Acts 8:4–17 | Christian Scripture Song When Samaria Believed — An Original Christian Scripture Song About Philip, the Gospel, and the Spread of Salvation Through Jesus Christ What happens when the Gospel reaches people who have long been separated by religious, cultural, and historical divisions? In Acts 8, persecution scattered believers from Jerusalem into the surrounding regions. What appeared to be a setback became an opportunity for the message of Jesus Christ to spread. Philip traveled to Samaria and proclaimed Christ to the people. “Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and proclaimed to them the Christ.” — Acts 8:5 (WEB) When Samaria Believed* reflects this remarkable moment in the early church, when the Gospel crossed longstanding boundaries and the people of Samaria responded to the message of Jesus Christ. As Philip preached, the crowds listened, witnessed signs, and experienced great joy throughout the city. “But when they believed Philip preaching good news concerning God's Kingdom and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.” — Acts 8:12 (WEB) The message was not about Philip's greatness or the miraculous signs themselves. It was about Jesus Christ—the crucified and risen Savior, through whom forgiveness and salvation are proclaimed. When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the Word of God, they sent Peter and John, who prayed for the believers to receive the Holy Spirit. This moment demonstrated the expanding reach and unity of Christ's church. The Gospel was not confined to Jerusalem or to one people. Jesus had commanded His disciples to be His witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the uttermost parts of the earth. God was fulfilling that promise. The account also warns against confusing genuine faith with fascination over spiritual power. Simon, who had previously practiced sorcery, sought to obtain the authority of the Holy Spirit through money. Peter sharply rebuked him and called him to repentance. Salvation and the gifts of God cannot be purchased, manipulated, or earned. They are received according to God's grace and purposes. The central message:** The Gospel of Jesus Christ breaks through human divisions, calls people to repentance and faith, and brings together those who believe in Him. God's saving work is not limited by geography, culture, or human expectations.
