Our grandparents knew exactly what they were. Meet, court, marry. There was a script, and everyone more or less followed it. Today, between swiping, texting and situationships, that script has disappeared, and so have many of the clear definitions that came with it.
In this episode of No Weak Links Club, Josi asks a big question: what happened to love as the central point of relationships?
She looks at how marriage was once seen as a practical agreement, and how we now expect a partner to be our lover, our best friend, our emotional safe place, a supporter of our personal growth and sometimes even a parent figure. That is a lot for one person to carry, and Josi explores the tension it creates between wanting security and wanting freedom.
She also talks about the fragility of choice. Modern relationships are built on choice rather than necessity, which can be a huge upgrade for everyone, but it also means we want someone for our lives while keeping the door unlocked in case it goes wrong. That leaves many couples wondering whether their commitment still feels fulfilling.
At the heart of it all is communication. Do we expect other people to follow rules that were never spoken out loud? Josi encourages listeners to understand and express their own needs, so relationships are fulfilling and not just functional.
The landscape of love has changed, but the search for meaningful connection has not.
If you have ever felt confused by modern dating, stuck in a situationship or unsure what you actually want from a partner, this one is for you.
