Dubai's Billion-Dollar Islands Are Washing Into the Sea

The World Islands Dubai is a 300-island map of the world built 4km off Dubai for $14 billion — and most of it is still empty sand. The film traces Sheikh Mohammed's 2003 megaproject, dredged by Van Oord and Boscalis with 321 million cubic metres of sand and sold island by island for tens of millions. After the 2008 crash left power cables unlaid and owners in court, only three projects including Lebanon Island and the Heart of Europe were complete by 2024.
