Nantucket Whalers Boys Soccer vs. Cape Cod Regional Tech Crusaders - September 30, 2026

The Nantucket Sports Connection brings you the Nantucket Whalers varsity boys soccer squad as they play a non-league match against the Crusaders from Cape Cod Regional Tech over in Harwich. The Whalers are well-rested after the nasty Nor'Easter that wiped out the calendar for all island teams for most of the last week. Nantucket is riding high with a 4-1 record, their best season start since 2018, after a decisive 6-1 road victory over Monomoy on Sept. 18. As of yesterday they are the #3 ranked team in Division 3 in the first Power Rankings of the season released by the MIAA -- a world of difference versus their #34 seed at the end of last season, which was the Whalers' first tourney in this higher division. For their part the Crusaders finished 9-7-2 last season, entering the playoffs as the #16 seed in Div. 5, where they quickly fell in the opening round to Community Academy of Science & Health. This is a pattern Cape Cod Tech has repeated in all but one tourney since the MIAA switched from sectional to statewide divisions. Despite their relative proximity, these two teams are infrequent opponents; in their most recent contest, Cape Cod Tech put an end to a Cinderella postseason run, defeating Nantucket 2-1 over on the Cape in the 2019 South Sectional quarterfinals. The Crusaders' last visit to the island went the other way, with the Whalers winning 4-0 on Oct. 23, 2018. Our live coverage begins at 3:45pm from the Surfside Soccer Field, coming to you live both on the NSC YouTube channel as well as on NCTV HD Channel 1072.
