Post-Interface: How generative AI is restructuring UX and interaction design by Julian Scaff

Generative AI is reconfiguring UX and interaction design jobs with incredible speed. In this talk, Julian Scaff, Associate Chair of Graduate Interaction Design at ArtCenter College of Design, unpacks how UX and interaction design labor is restructuring around a new set of capabilities: prompt writing as a design discipline, vibe-coding as a bridge from static mockups to functional prototypes, and a widening gap between designers who merely use AI tools and those who design AI behavior. He'll break down how teams are reshaping around smaller, senior-loaded, interdisciplinary pods, and what that means for how the next generation of designers gets trained. The talk closes with five recent capstone projects from ArtCenter's Graduate Interaction Design program, showing these principles already at work in student practice.
