The original poem begins: ای جان تو جانم را از خویش خبر کرده اندیشهٔ تو هر دم در بنده اثر کرده In this poem, Rumi describes a love so profound that the thoughts of the beloved pass directly through the lover. A glance overturns the heart; the reed becomes filled with sweetness; the beloved’s face becomes the moon; and finally the wandering heart journeys beyond itself. This English version preserves the central images and progression of Rumi’s original ghazal while adapting the language and structure for music.
