Meet the new Auditor General Vimbai Chikwenhere

Auditor-General Ms. Vimbai Chikwenhere today presented the Office of the Auditor-General's 2026 budget performance and 2027 requirements at the 2027 Pre-Budget Seminar. She reported that as at 30 September 2026, the Office had received only 23% of its ZWG 794.4 million approved budget, with ZWG 615.5 million outstanding and payables of ZWG 13.57 million. For 2027, the Office's ideal budget is ZWG 1.227 billion against a ceiling of ZWG 850.6 million, leaving a shortfall of ZWG 269.11 million. The ceiling funds only 69% of requirements. The 2027 priorities are anchored on five pillars: auditing services, Pegasus House project, digitalisation, including a Recommendations Tracker, human capital retention, and fleet sustainability. The Office is requesting Parliament to approve its ideal budget of ZWG 1.227 billion and to adopt upfront release of funds to safeguard its independence and enable timely execution of its constitutional mandate.
