How do you tell a 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 XL from a 1964? Larry Shobe shows Barry T his original '63 XL hardtop, owned about 60 years, next to son-in-law Scott's '64 XL convertible, both with the 390.
Larry and Barry T compare the two top-of-the-line Fords side by side: grilles, the '63's matching front and rear grilles, taillight star patterns, bumpers, side trim, mirrors, 14- and 15-inch wheel covers with spinners, and the low-cut rear quarters. Inside, they look at the matching consoles, door courtesy lights, rear seat speaker and dealer-installed Select Aire air conditioning, and under the hood they find the '63's original Dearborn compressor still working. Barry T also breaks down the full-size Ford engine lineups for 1963 and 1964, from the 223 six and the 260 and 289 Windsor V8s to the FE 352, 390, 406 Tri-Power and 427.
