Be Down Shortly. – Vintage Noir Jazz for Tiled Rooftops, Full Moon Views & Late Nights

Someone has been calling him down for the last half hour, and every time the answer has been the same slow blink. He simply prefers the roof. Settled on the old terracotta tiles high above the harbor town, his tail wrapped snugly around him and one front paw resting on a low stone ledge, he turns a long, unimpressed stare on you, as though you had climbed all the way up here just to ask again. Behind him a full moon floats over the sea and stretches a wide ribbon of gold toward the shore, sailboats doze along the quay, and a bell tower glows among the lit windows on the hill. This collection of slow 1940s noir jazz lingers on the rooftop with him. A husky muted trumpet calls up now and then and, like everyone else tonight, gets no answer, the bass treads softly along the ridge of each tune, and the brushes keep a whispering pace, while the wine glass is parked safely on the ledge beside his paw, a small island twinkles out in the bay, and dark cypress trees stand between the rooftops below. Perfect background music for rooftop evenings by moonlight, one last glass before turning in, letters you keep meaning to write, or a quiet hour above the noise. Your message has been received. He will be down shortly, or possibly much later.
