Concrete slump is a standard test method used to determine the workability of a concrete mix. The slump test is also critical from a concrete testing standpoint since it is used to determine the appropriate method of consolidation for many of the other CSA concrete test methods (sample vibration versus rodding).
The primary purpose of the slump test on the actual jobsite is to provide a quick way to determine the consistence of the concrete supplied to the project on a load to load basis. Significant variations in the concrete slump from load to load provides an early indication of possible material variations that could result in placement and finishing difficulties or performance property variations at a later date.
