WHY are some middle-class Americans looking overseas for a better life? From rising housing costs and expensive healthcare to retirement concerns and the pressure of keeping up with everyday bills, some Americans are questioning whether living abroad could offer a better quality of life.
For decades, the American Dream promised that hard work could lead to homeownership, financial security, a comfortable retirement, and a better future for the next generation. But for some working families, achieving those goals feels increasingly difficult. As a result, living abroad is becoming part of the conversation about affordability, financial freedom, and the future of the American middle class.
A September 2026 Verasight survey of 1,000 U.S. adults found that 7.5% were seriously considering or definitely planning to move abroad within the next two years. However, 60.9% said they were definitely not considering it. These findings suggest that while some Americans are exploring their options, moving overseas is not something most Americans are currently planning. In this video, we explore why some Americans are considering life overseas, how living costs and financial goals influence relocation decisions, and what people should consider before making such a major move. We also examine the potential advantages and challenges of living abroad, including healthcare access, employment, taxes, immigration requirements, and cultural differences.
Is the American Dream becoming harder to achieve, or are some Americans simply redefining what a better life looks like? Watch until the end as we examine the reasons behind this growing conversation and what it could mean for America's middle class.
