Lyrics:
They said drum machines would kill the drummer.
Samplers would kill the soul.
Synthesizers would replace musicians.
Digital recording would make it too easy.
Auto-Tune would make everybody fake.
Every generation hears a new machine
and predicts the end of music.
Now the machine has a new name: AI.
But the machine was never the story.
The artist was.
When drum machines arrived, they said, that ain't real.
When samplers came, they said, that's stealing the feel.
But somebody found a rhythm nobody had found,
took buttons and wires and shook the whole sound.
Synthesizers opened a door in the wall,
digital recording changed how we captured it all.
Auto-Tune came next, and the argument grew
Music is finished. What else can we do?
History keeps proving them wrong
the tools change. The artist adapts.
Technique matters. Training matters.
Knowing your craft can sharpen the blade.
But music isn't only what you know.
It's what you make somebody feel.
The tool does not determine the art
THE ARTIST DOES.
The machine can make sound,
but the human gives it a pulse.
Give an artist something new,
watch them bend it, break it, move.
The tool does not determine the art
THE ARTIST DOES.
James Brown could take one groove,
one beat, one room,
and make the whole damn place move.
Just taste, timing, instinct, fire.
Then Marshall Jefferson took machines and ideas,
sounds traditional musicians didn't always hear,
and created something completely new.
Buttons and circuits were only the beginning.
The magic was the person behind them.
Craft gives the vision somewhere to go.
But music isn't a test you pass.
It's a feeling you make somebody know.
So when they say, AI is gonna destroy music,
I say, no. Bad artists made bad music before it.
Now they can make it faster.
That's the only thing that changed.
But put that technology
in the hands of somebody with taste,
vision, experience,
and something to say
and you're gonna hear something special.
A camera didn't invent photography.
A synthesizer didn't invent emotion.
A sampler didn't invent creativity.
AI doesn't invent the artist.
AI is a tool.
You still gotta be a good artist.
You need taste. You need vision.
You need to know when to break the rule
and when to let silence speak.
The machine can generate possibilities
it cannot decide what matters.
The tool does not determine the art
THE ARTIST DOES.
From the drum machine to the sampler,
from the synthesizer to the digital studio,
every new machine gives somebody
another language to speak.
Technology evolves.
Artists adapt and shape culture.
Critics write footnotes.
History already ran this experiment.
The tool does not determine the art
THE ARTIST DOES.
If you love music made by humans
who embraced drum machines, samplers,
synthesizers, computers, digital studios
why does the machine become the enemy
the moment somebody calls it AI?
If the artist still chooses the message,
the feeling, the taste, the vision, the song
then ask yourself
are you angry at the machine,
or afraid of what an artist might create with it?
