Dominium was formed in 1999 by myself and "Dominus" when we were in high school, and we played about ten really good shows in that period, performing as the opening act for many bands at our local club "Twisters" in Richmond, Virginia. In this first run, Dominium was fortunate enough to open for large acts such as Mayhem, Morbid Angel, Marduk, Gorguts, Monstrosity, The Kovenant, Incantation, etc. We also produced a demo in these years called "Curses of Wisdom", which we released in January 2000, and also recorded an EP "The Black War Comes" but the recording was ruined and we never released it (But it did have artwork, etc.) After Twisters was closed in July of 2001, Dominium sort of just stopped playing together. Dominus had graduated high school and was less interested in the band, and since we had no place to play live (so I thought) i joined a band in NOVA called Fierce Allegiance that summer, and that fall joined Nehema.
In 2010 while out at a show at a local bar called Wonderland, I came back in contact with the former bassist, Matt, Or Kabal as he is known in the band. We talked a bit about how it would be great to try to out the band back together and do it properly now that we were in our late 20s. We started jamming again, even trying to bring Dominus back in, but scheduling conflicts made this impossible. For the Incursion EP, which was the first thing we recorded upon reuniting, we had recruited a local singer from a band called Obvium(?) named Jim, who became known as Uzas. Matt recorded all the strings on that one, but we wound up getting our high school buddy Phil, who plays in some decently well known bands to cover us until we found a bass player.
As we went to record War Ritual in 2012, just as we had come back from our tour with Demonical, we still had not found a bassist, so once again Matt handled all the strings on the album. The night before I recorded this, at a friends house an hour or so away, I was up until all hours with a person simply known as Duty in Richmond. I very rarely got hungover when I was a drinker, but man did I have a severe one this day. Nevertheless, this was the pinnacle of me being in shape for this kind of drumming and I banged this thing out in about an hour, playing the songs all the way through, no punching in.
The album was completed in 2012 but did not get released until 2014. I had quit the band somewhere in 2013, and only came back in contact with Matt because he wanted to tell me the album was finished, and being released on a real label, Horror Pain Gore Death records. So, Eventually after some time talking again I rejoined the band for the last year or so until we finally called it quits.
We were really big fans of Marduk, and we hoped this could be like a poor man's Panzer Division. I think we did a pretty good job. RIP Dominium 1999-2015
