Saļmes – psalmu dziedājumi par mirušajiem jeb mirušo ofīcijs, jeb ekzekvijas ir senākā Stirnienes draudzē zināmā un tautā joprojām praktizētā garīgās mūzikas tradīcija – ieradums bērēs un mirušo atceres gadījumos lūgties par aizgājēja dvēseli, bet tuviniekiem rast mierinājumu bēdās. Psalmu dziedāšana ir aizlūgums, kas orientēts uz to dvēseļu glābšanu, kuras pēc nāves nokļuvušas šķīstītavā. Tautā šos dziedājumus dēvē arī par saimēm, salmēm, saļmēm, saļmu dzīdōšonu, pōtortolku, pōtoru skaiteišonu. 2020.-2021. gadā par šo seno, skaisto un svētīgo Latgales tradīciju Stirnienes draugu biedrība ar VKKF atbalstu īstenoja projektu kopumu, kas rezultējās ar tradicionālo psalmu un bēru dziedājumu krājumu un dubultdisku “Saļmes Stērnīnē”, video ierakstu un pieteikuma sagatavošanu nemateriālās kultūras mantojuma sarakstam. Stirnienes pusē psalmu dziedāšanas tradīcija ir dzīva un tiek rūpīgi kopta. “Saļmes Stērnīnē” ir unikāls dziedājumu krājums, kas sevī ietver gan notis, reliģiskos tekstus un dziesmas, gan to ieskaņojumu divos audiodiskos, kā arī aprakstu par psalmu dziedāšanas tradīciju Stirnienē un to dziedātājiem šajā apkaimē. Dubultdiska ierakstu un video ierakstu nemateriālās kultūras mantojuma saglabāšanai, patiesi un no sirds izpildot tautas dziedājumu – lūgšanu par visiem mirušajiem – veica apkaimes dziedātāji. Diskā skan Stirnienes pusei raksturīgās melodijas, kādas tās gadu gaitā apgūtas no vecākās paaudzes saļmu dziedātājiem. Šis krājums noderēs ikvienam, kurš vēlas uzzināt par tradīciju, kā arī pats mīlestībā izdziedāt mūžsenās melodijas un lūgties par mirušajiem. 2021. gadā psalmu dziedāšanas tradīcija Stirnienē apstiprināta Nacionālajā nemateriālās kultūras mantojuma sarakstā. www.stirnienesbaznica.lv Saļmes – Office of the Dead chants, known as officium defunctorum, is the most long-standing known and currently still practiced tradition of religious music in the Stirniene parish, Latvia, being a custom of praying for the soul of the deceased at the funeral and commemorational events, soothing the loved ones in their sorrow. Office of the Dead chanting is an intercession designed for saving the souls which, after death, have entered the Purgatory. In 2020-2021, Stirniene friends association, in collaboration with State Culture Capital Foundation, realized a group of projects centring this ancient, beautiful and holy Latgale tradition, which resulted in a collection of traditional Office of the Dead and funeral songs and a record CD “Saļmes Stērnīnē”, a video and a filed proposition to include the tradition into the list of intangible cultural heritage. In the area of Stirniene, this tradition is alive and well, being caringly kept and maintained. “Saļmes Stērnīnē” is a unique collection of chants, which includes music scores, religious texts and songs, and their recordings in two audio discs, as well as a description of the officium defunctorum singing tradition in Stirniene and information on the singers in the area. The audio and video recordings for the intangible cultural heritage documentation have been authentically performed by singers of Stirniene and the surrounding areas. In the disc, melodies distinctive to Stirniene have been recorded in the way they have been passed on from the older generations of the Office of the Dead singers. This collection will serve anyone interested in becoming acquainted with the tradition and willing to sing along the ancient melodies in a prayer for the dead. In 2021, the Office of the Dead chant tradition in Stirniene was officially included in the National list of intangible cultural heritage. www.stirnienesbaznica.lv
