Why do we keep going back to people who hurt us — even when we know the relationship isn’t good for us?
The answer is more complicated than weakness, loneliness, or a lack of self-respect.
Attachment, intermittent reinforcement, hope, emotional investment, selective memory, nostalgia, and self-worth can create powerful psychological loops that make leaving someone feel very different from actually letting them go.
In this video, we explore why your brain can continue pulling you toward someone who caused you pain, why distance can feel so uncomfortable, why good memories become stronger with time, and why missing someone doesn’t necessarily mean you should return.
Most importantly, we look at what it actually takes to break the pattern — separating feelings from decisions, looking at patterns instead of promises, rebuilding your life outside the relationship, and learning to create closure without waiting for another person to give it to you.
You can love someone and recognize that the relationship hurt you.
You can miss someone and choose not to return.
Both can be true.
