The West was once part of the same ancient Church as the East. So what happened? In this video, I make the Orthodox case for understanding the history of Western Christianity—not as the story of a completely separate religion, but as the story of one ancient Church that gradually developed along increasingly different paths. The question is much more specific: Which Church today most closely resembles the ancient Church of the Fathers? The West didn't simply wake up one day and become something completely different. The separation was gradual, complicated, and developed over centuries.
