She was an LAPD detective for 23 years — and the whole time, she was the one who murdered Sherri Rasmussen. This is the true story of how a bite mark, a discarded Costco cup, and one father's ignored warning finally caught a killer hiding inside the LAPD itself.
In 1986, 29-year-old newlywed nurse Sherri Rasmussen was found beaten and shot to death in her Van Nuys, California condo. LAPD ruled it a burglary gone wrong and closed the case for over two decades — while the real killer, Stephanie Lazarus, became a decorated LAPD detective herself, working just floors away from the cold case unit investigating her own crime.
It took a preserved bite mark, a DNA breakthrough, and a covert surveillance operation on one of their own officers to finally bring her down in 2009. This video covers the full timeline: the murder, the ignored suspicions, the 23-year cold case, the DNA match, the arrest, the trial, and the ongoing fight over her parole that continues today.
