📜 Lyrics:
You wake before the morning
With blue light on your face
A thousand people talking
From a thousand different places
Your mother calls you twice
But you don't hear her through the glass
A message from a stranger
And a moment that won't last
You learn to hate your features
By comparing them online
Someone's living your dream life
Inside your tired, unmade mind
Every little vibration
Pulls another thread
Till the world outside you
Is a place inside your head
Generation Rectangle
Eyes beneath the light
Trading all the real things
For a better-looking life
Generation Rectangle
Tell me what you see
A million perfect strangers
And nobody looking at me
Swipe away the silence
Scroll away the pain
Build a little heaven
In a window full of rain
When the screen goes black
Who's the face you see?
Staring from the other side
Of your own reality
She's fourteen in the bathroom
Taking forty pictures straight
Every smile is being measured
Every second comes too late
She deletes the ones that look like her
Keeps the ones that look like someone else
Then she lies awake till morning
Feeling ugly by herself
At school they speak in numbers
Hearts and views and who got seen
Every joke becomes a weapon
Every friendship gets a screen
Every little notification
Says that you belong
Till the room goes quiet
And the feeling comes back strong
Generation Rectangle
Eyes beneath the light
Trading all the real things
For a better-looking life
Generation Rectangle
Tell me what you see
A million perfect strangers
And nobody looking at me
Swipe away the silence
Scroll away the pain
Build a little heaven
In a window full of rain
At the table, four are eating
But no one's really there
One is watching strangers dancing
One is fixing up her hair
A father checks his messages
As his daughter tells a story
He says, "That's nice, sweetheart"
While she watches him ignore her
She stops halfway through the sentence
He doesn't notice when
She decides that he is busy
And won't tell him things again
There's a man who knows the headlines
Knows strangers' private lives
But the woman sleeping next to him
Has stopped asking if he's fine
They photograph the sunset
They record the perfect night
But nobody remembers
What it felt like to be alive
It isn't just the children
They were handed what we made
Every bright and clever doorway
Has a price that isn't paid
Keep them watching
Keep them wanting
Keep them frightened of the day
That they might miss something important
If they ever look away
Make them feel a little poorer
Sell them mirrors for the wall
Call it connection
Call it choice
While they lose their own voice
What happened to the boredom
That could open up a door?
To the long, unplanned afternoons
When we needed nothing more?
To the walk without a purpose
To a thought that could be free
To a moment that belonged to us
Without an audience to see?
You don't have to hate the machine
You don't have to turn away
But a life is more than proof
That you were here today
Generation Rectangle
Eyes beneath the light
Trading all the real things
For a better-looking life
Generation Rectangle
Tell me what you see
A million perfect strangers
And nobody looking at me
Put away the silence
Let the silence stay
Let the world be imperfect
Let it happen anyway
Generation Rectangle
Let the screen go black
There's a world beyond the window
And it's waiting for you back
When the screen goes black
When the room goes still
When there's nothing left to look at
Nothing left to thrill
No numbers
No hearts
No audience to please
Just you
And the dark
And the sound of being free
Generation Rectangle
Look up.
