Long Island: Hiking Nova Scotia's Volcanic Basalt Columns | Balancing Rock Trail (Part 3)

We are picking up right at the Balancing Rock trailhead on Long Island for Part 3 of our Nova Scotia Road Trip. This 17-minute trek takes you through the dense coastal canopy and straight down to the sheer cliffs of St. Marys Bay to witness some of the most striking geology in the Maritimes. The Balancing Rock is a massive, gravity-defying column of basalt—created millions of years ago when ancient volcanic lava flows cooled and fractured into these perfect geometric pillars. To pack all this rugged scenery into one episode, we've edited this hike to feature a 2x speed walk into the rock and a 2x climb back out up the infamous 235-step wooden staircase.
