Italian Steam along Lago Maggiore - Verbano Express - FS 625.116

A steam-hauled steam special organized by the Railway Touring Company from Lunio, Italy to Cadenazzo, Switzerland in early September 2026. The ornate and elegante steam locomotive 625.116 was built in 1922 by Ansaldo in Genova Sampierdarena. These 2-6-0 tender locos are nicknamed "Signorina", due to their gracefulness. The class has inside cylinders yet outside valve gear. Operated by the volunteers of Verbano Express , also known as the Museo Ferroviario del Verbano. The former FS locomotive 625.116 was previously plinthed at Luino station from 1985 onwards, but then overhauled and returned to steam in the early 2020s.
