Today I'm finishing Zoey the Schnauzer's groom while sharing the tips, techniques, and everyday advice I've learned during more than 25 years as a professional dog groomer. As I groom, we talk about much more than just clipping hair. I discuss why a calm, positive drop-off can make a difference for your dog, ways to help nervous dogs travel more comfortably to grooming appointments, and why I sometimes recommend a travel bag or crate for small dogs. I also share my thoughts on ear plucking—when it's done, why it's done, and how I personally approach it. Then we move into one of my favorite parts of a Schnauzer groom: shaping the head. I'll explain how I trim the eyebrows, ears, and beard, and why I adjust the style to suit the individual dog and the owner's preferences.
