Why Arunachal Pradesh Is Protesting a Proposed 11,200-MW Dam on the Siang River?

A proposed mega-dam on the Siang River has sparked widespread protests in Arunachal Pradesh, with clashes, injuries and detentions reported during a 12-hour bandh. The proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project is set to be India's largest hydropower and storage dam, designed as an 11,200 MW structure on the Siang River. Its significance for India and the Northeast spans strategic, economic, and ecological dimensions. A large reservoir on the Siang acts as a geostrategic shield, helping India offset risks of dry-season water diversions or catastrophic flash floods caused by sudden upstream water releases from China. Projected to generate roughly 47 billion units of electricity annually, making it a major asset for India's green energy goals. #SiangDam #SiangUpperMultipurposeProject #ArunachalPradesh #SiangRiver #MegaDam #Hydropower #IndiaChina #China #NortheastIndia #DamProject #WaterSecurity #EnergySecurity #RenewableEnergy #GreenEnergy #EnvironmentalImpact #ArunachalProtests #SiangBasin #Geopolitics #news9live ..............................................................................................
