slow, true story about the real science behind Interstellar, told quietly to help you fall asleep. Two hours of calm narration over soft ambient music, with no adverts to wake you.
Hello, fellow sapiens. 🌙
In 2014 a film hired a physicist. Not to glance over the script, but to work with the effects team for a year. Kip Thorne had spent his whole career studying objects nobody had ever seen, and when the team finished rendering his equations, the images turned out to be accurate enough to publish in a physics journal. Five years later a telescope photographed a real black hole, and it looked like what they had drawn.
Tonight we follow that story, and the science underneath it. What a black hole actually is. Why time runs slower near one, and why your phone's navigation would fail without correcting for it. Whether a wormhole could ever exist. What happens if you fall in. Where black holes come from when stars die. What we have found orbiting other stars, and why nobody has answered us. How the universe began, and why we still cannot say what most of it is made of.
All of it is true. None of it is told in a way that asks you to stay awake.
If you drift off before the end, good. That's what it's for. Come back tomorrow and start again.
Tell us where you're listening from tonight. There are more of us awake than you'd think. 💤
🎧 Best listened to in the dark, at low volume.

Written and produced by Sleepy Sapiens. This is an original script about the real physics referenced in the film, and contains no footage, images or audio from the film itself.
