Are we actually getting better superhero projects, or have our standards just been dragged so low that the bare minimum suddenly looks like peak cinema?
Superhero fatigue isn't just about getting tired of the same formulas anymore — it's turned into complete desensitization. We've spent years watching mediocre scripts, questionable writing, broken continuity, and corporate franchise decisions until our expectations have hit rock bottom. Now, decent CGI gets called a masterpiece, one good fight scene becomes "absolute cinema," and anything that isn't completely terrible gets treated like peak fiction.
In this video, we break down what I call *"Dog Shit Fatigue"* — the point where audiences have consumed so much mediocre superhero content that they've become conditioned to praise basic competence.
From *Hal Jordan getting nerfed and the rules of the world being thrown out the window in Lanterns**, to **Spider-Man: Brand New Day* confusing emotional manipulation with deep character writing, we'll look at why some of these projects feel increasingly difficult to take seriously.
We'll also discuss *Superman (2025)* and how Clark Kent can sometimes feel like he's fighting for screen time inside his own movie, the overcrowded DCU setup surrounding characters like Guy Gardner, Mister Terrific and Hawkgirl, and why Lex Luthor's role doesn't completely land.
And then there's *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* — a competently made superhero movie that somehow struggles to deliver the emotional highs you'd expect, while leaning heavily on the promise of what's coming next.
In this video:
• What "Dog Shit Fatigue" actually means
• Why superhero audiences have become desensitized
• The problems with Hal Jordan and power scaling in Lanterns
• The Jean Grey problem in Spider-Man: Brand New Day
• Why Superman feels overcrowded by DCU world-building
• The problems with Lex Luthor's storyline
• Why The Fantastic Four: First Steps struggles to create genuine emotional peaks
• Why cameo and sequel bait shouldn't replace great storytelling

Do you think modern superhero projects are actually improving, or have our standards dropped so low that basic competence is now being celebrated as a masterpiece?
