3 AM at a Vietnamese Market — This Is How We Make a Living

At 3 AM, I visit a Vietnamese wholesale market to choose fruit for my stall and share the work happening before sunrise. I’m Thang, a 59 year old fruit seller living with my family in rural Vietnam. I check the fruit, compare prices, and arrange for my order to be delivered to the market where I sell. Then I take you through the fruit, vegetable, flower, and meat sections, with a brief look at the fish stalls before heading home. Along the way, I share what I look for when choosing fruit, how the different stalls connect with everyday meals, and the work behind the goods we buy.
