Hoda Kotb is leaving the "TODAY" show on NBC, but before she signs off Friday, she spent a few minutes talking with 3News' Danita Harris about her decision -- including what she's going to miss the most.
“I think what I’m going to miss the most -- because I’ve thought about all of the great interviews and all the incredible trips to the Olympics, or to the Emmys, or the Golden Globes and all of those things -- but when I think about what I’m going to miss the most, when I think about sitting at the anchor desk, it’s sitting next to my friend. That’s it. That’s everything. Imagine that I get the privilege of sitting next to my friend every single day of the week. We get time together. We catch up. It’s work. But it’s more than that. So I think what I’ll miss the most is the day-to-day friendships and the sharing.”
Kotb announced her decision to leave "TODAY" back in September.
“I kind of describe it as like a time pie," Kotb said in her conversation with Harris. "You have a time pie and there are only so many slices. You have to sort of decide what gets what. I decided that my kids deserved more of my time pie -- and they’re going to get it. Work’s had a big portion of it for many, many, many years. I decided it was time for a shift. I think when you jump it’s scary. You’re like, ‘Oh my gosh. Should I do it? Can I do it? Am I capable of doing it? What’s next?' But I feel weirdly comfortable and confident in that wherever I land it will be A-OK because I’m going to have those two girls in my arms.”
